Travel~ Tour of Beers Belgium

After Christmas we went to Belgium with our friends. Richie planned a three day 'Tour of Beers'. It's perfect going on a small trip with Dave and Daniela because our kids are the same ages and they play with each other so well.

First stop of our trip...Westvleteren Trappist brewery...beer brewed by the Monks from the Abbey of Saint Sixtus of Westvtleteren. Make sure to make your purchase before you sit down to eat and not when you leave. They run out quickly! There was only one kind to choose from for purchase even when we got there. This beer is difficult to get and you have to make reservations to order a case 60 days before hand.

 The blonde...surprisingly Richie and Dave's favorite but it was not available for take-home-purchase.

A little girl time in Lille, France

My friend Daniela and I had about two hours to walk around and get lost. We stumbled on this cool little place called, The Merveilleux. There was a line going out the door so we thought we'd get in it and see what the hype was all about. I'm so glad we did. They made the best meringue's I've ever had in my life. They were freshly made and topped with some type of whipped cream...a little piece of heaven that melted in your mouth.

We also found this amazing beer store that sold local micro brew. We lugged big bags of beer back for our men. Oh how we love them.

Our quick dinner....sushi!

The next day we drove into Brussels and we dropped the guys off at Cantillon Brewery.

After walking in the complete opposite direction of the city center for almost an hour with seven kids we found a safe place to sit and eat. It was worth it. Daniela and I even hi-fived each other after the food came out. The food was that good. Although we couldn't understand the waiters mixed French and Arabic, we understood that he said it was Syrian food when we asked him. Amazing Fattoush with fried pieces of pita bread and pomegranates. I never had it with pomegranates before! There was also this salsa type dip with pomegranates. A-maz-ing. 

 Last stop of our trip...Trolls and Bush Taverne where we could get some food and the guys could sample more beers. We went there two years ago and went back this time. It was on our route back to the hotel.
